Marine debris is a global problem that impacts the environment, commerce, and human safety. Along the West Coast of the U.S., marine debris is varied and comes from many sources: litter that washes out into the ocean from population centers along rivers, streams and bays, debris from vessels on the ocean and from catastrophic events such as floods and tsunamis.
